As a treat, here's some outtakes from Castle Vlad, including a few clips from an unfinished episode that was cursed with way too many technical difficulties! Vlad will be back before next October, so keep an evil eye on Weird Hollow!
It's a monstrous battle to the finish line to find out who will be the 2011 Monster Head Races champion! Will it be Medusa? Will it be The Phantom of the Opera? Who will win? Also, who will win the fantastic signed book, Mail-Order Mysteries: Real Stuff from Old Comic Book Ads! by Kirk Demarais. The people who picked the winning monster head will be entered into a drawing for this must have book!
In the Phantom of the Opera's corner we have kungfubonanza, Mother Firefly and Spookworks. Only three people picked the Phantom. Poor Phantom. First, he only gets a few fans and then he's picked on by Vlad in all the races. Maybe he can overcome it all and win the race.
In Medusa's corner and hopefully not turned to stone are Jack, Shawn Robare, Richard, John Rozum and pensive.
Now watch to see who wins -
Congrats to the winning Monster Head! Now Vlad will pick a winner for the signed Mail-Order Mysteries!
Thanks to everyone who played along and congrats to the big winner! (You will be getting an email later in the day.)
Scary Larry is back visiting Castle Vlad with a new episode of bad jokes and punishing puns. In this episode we get to meet Dingo the Werewolf!
You might be scratching your head wondering what's up with SL's new hairdo. Apparently he's dealing with a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde problem and was in between transformations. In his Hyde persona, a much scarier Scary Larry will be appearing live with his band The Empty Graves during a Halloween bash at Lindberg's located in Springfield, Missouri on October 29th! Check out the flyers and the video promos below. Visit their facebook page here.
In 1997, the Universal Monsters and the men that played them were honored with U.S. postage stamps. Before the stamps were released to the general public on October 30, they were first released a month before during a monster shindig at Universal Studios Hollywood. Photos from this event can be found at the Chaney Entertainment website. The amazing artwork was created by artist Thomas Blackshear. Blackshear's original paintings for Frankenstein's monster can be seen here and Dracula here.
Here’s a commercial for the Classic Movie Monsters stamps.
A fun set of eleven trading cards were produced called Stampers Saver Cards and featured the actor and the monster they portrayed. You could match up the actor with the monster! Fun for kids, adults and monsters of all kinds!
Vlad is back! In this episode he shows a never before seen tape that he made for a video dating service. The clips from the video dating interview session were all unusable. Come to think of it, the whole interview was unusable and Vlad is still alone.
Welcome to the first race of this year’s Monster Head Races! Today we have the returning champion, Dr. Phibes (with his talky thingy) versus the one and only Blacula!
Yes, Vlad is back calling the race. Look for a new Vlad episode later this week!
Hey there MHR fans! Today is the last day to pick the monster head that you think will win Monster Head Races IV. If you pick the winning monster head then you'll have a chance to win Kirk Demarais' most excellent book, Mail-Order Mysteries: Real Stuff from Old Comic Book Ads. As a cool kicker, Kirk will sign his book for the winner!
So follow this link, ENTER MHR CONTEST before 11:59 p.m. tonight (central time) and pick the monster head you think will be the champion racer!
As always, the races were shot before the beginning of the Halloween countdown and no one knows the outcome except me and Vlad and we never tell!!! (By the way, the winner also receives an autographed photo of Vlad.) This year the races were shot in RETRO-VISION. Going with the poorest quality that video tape has to offer! Please join us Tuesday for the goofiest, weirdest and usually lamest race ever, the Monster Head Races.
Be sure to spread the news about Kirk's comic book ad book, 'cause this week his book will be hitting the streets ready for purchase. Here's the Amazon link for Mail-Order Mysteries.
Yesterday it was Rick Baker mask maker. Today we get Bob Laden, the Oscar nominated and The Hilarious House of Frightenstein make-up effects man! This two page article is from a 1978 Dynamite magazine. Bob transforms a nine year old into an 80 year old!
Hey there race fans! Welcome to Monster Head Races IV! Once again eight famous monster heads have gathered to race in a bracket style challenge.
In a moment you’ll get a chance to pick your favorite monster noggin that you think will win the race tournament. First, let’s take a look at the prize we’re giving away!
This year you have a chance at winning this -
It’s the soon to be released (Oct. 11) Mail-Order Mysteries: Real Stuff from Old Comic Book Ads! by Kirk Demarais! As an added bonus, the book will be signed by Kirk D. himself! This book is amazing and it will quickly take you back to simpler times. Back to when you dreamed of ordering X-ray specs, life-size monsters and Sea Monkeys, but never did. Kirk has tracked down these seldom seen mail-order artifacts and compares the actual items to the comic book ads. Here's the book trailer -
Also as an added bonus the winner will receive an autographed photo of Vlad!
Now for the rotten rules -
In the comments section below, enter the name of the Monster Head that you think will win the tournament.

Pick one of these Monster Heads - Dr. Phibes, Medusa, Martian, She-Creature, Blacula, Teenage Frankenstein, Headless Horseman and Phantom of the Opera.
You must have your selection posted in the comments section by Oct. 10 at 11:59 p.m. Central time to eligible.
Only one guess per person.
This contest is open to all ages and all countries.
All seven races were filmed a few days ago and no one knows the outcome of any race except for me the mayor and Vlad and we’re not telling a soul!
If more than one person picks the winning Monster Head, we’ll throw the names of the people with the winning Monster Head into a cauldron and Vlad will randomly pick a winner. If no one picks the winning Monster Head, then we’ll pick a name from everyone who entered the contest.
The first race will air on Tuesday, October 11 right here on Weird Hollow followed by the other races every Thursday and Tuesday.
Located in the town of Neato Coolville is Weird Hollow. Most everyone who works and lives on this creepy street are usually nice and polite. Just be careful of the ones that sometime bite!
